Two cousins, 10 & 11 years old, share an annual ritual: they meet at the end of summer to see who stayed the palest. We see a glimpse of their girlhood, and a shared joy that exists in the shadow of the stories they've internalised.

Freshly dumped, the only thing that cheers John up is a weekly delivery of tomatoes from his eccentric neighbour Pat. When John witnesses a home invasion, he gets more than he bargained for: the well-kept secret behind Pat's prizewinning produce.

During a rare visit from her tradition-minded grandmother, a young Indian girl lets slip that she's left handed. Horrified, her grandmother and aunt set out to change that, and a battle of wills ensues.
