Biography
Beth Barnes is a writer/director born in Glasgow, Scotland who currently resides in Cologne, Germany. She spent half of her childhood in Switzerland after her family relocated there in 2009 and writes and works in English and German. She graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Film with a focus on Screenwriting from the Zurich University of the Arts in June 2025. From September 2025 onward she has taken the plunge into writing for serial formats with a Masters in Serial Storytelling at the International Filmschool of Cologne, Germany.

On a young waitress’s birthday, the perplexing appearance of one of her deceased mother’s homemade cakes deeply troubles her. Over her shift that evening, surrounded by happy families in the little restaurant where she works, memories of her mother crowd in, and her attempts to repress her emotions grow ever more difficult.

Returning from a holiday in the early hours of the morning, a young couple walk through the streets of Zürich, dragging suitcases behind them. Bleary-eyed and exhausted from their journey, they bicker. As they wait on a train platform to continue homeward, a misunderstanding occurs. Confusion rises and doubts awaken. Where do they go from here?
