When it is time for him to do the compulsory military service, he has to do it in a platoon for "unreliable" persons.

The staff at the White Cat Inn watch with concern and suspicion as Johan, the postman, pays frequent visits. This dapper, suave gentleman persistently courts Kristýna, the widowed innkeeper, even though he otherwise despises the locals. Kristýna's son Vítek dislikes him. And even more so when Johan tries to drive his pet and protector of the inn, the white cat, out of the house! Vítek, Kristýna's servants, and her friend, the poacher Prokop, are determined to get rid of Johan or at least make his life miserable. And things start to happen at the inn...

While they are amused by his zeal and responsibility, Štěpán has increasing problems with his superiors, until he is finally transferred to the position of rural district doctor, which everyone rejects. In Bezdíkov, however, he meets a new, perhaps permanent and reciprocated love, with whom he eventually decides to live and work in northern Bohemia.
How Poets Are Enjoying Their Lives

Aninka lives on a farm with her two conceited sisters, whom she must serve. One day, she finds a feather that she uses to summon Prince Vítek, who has been enchanted into the form of a bird. When her evil sisters discover that Aninka is meeting with the handsome young man, they take the feather, destroy it, and Vítek disappears. The only way to break the curse is for Aninka to find him somewhere in the world. And so the girl sets out on a journey to rescue her beloved.

Držgrešle and Drždukát are truly miserly characters. With their cunning, deceit, and eloquence, they could probably swindle a calf from a barren cow. They rob simple villagers and fairy-tale creatures of whatever they can. Just think, they even take away the terrible voice of a terrible robber. In the end, however, they meet their match: the lazy Vojta and his sweetheart Anička come up with a way to rob the greedy brothers of the sack in which they keep all the possessions of those who cross their path.

And although each of them has a different reason for doing so, they are all now undergoing the most bizarre procedures and exercises under the supervision of an ascetic head physician, all without food, alcohol, or sex. For most of them, this makes their stay at the sanatorium a nightmare. Jedlík's characters are romantic and foolish, funny and touching, and none of them lack a sense of humor. They are all guided by love, for people, things, work, and, of course, food, and each of them ultimately finds it.
