The illegitimate child, Marie Růžová, grows up in the family of the Bořický miller. Childhood and youth spend with the son of Bořice, Klement. Klement asserts the rights, becomes a lawyer, and marries Jirina. In order not to cause further contradictions, Mary will go to Prague secretly at night. There he is living heavily as a waitress. He resists the insults of architect Jansky until he ultimately decides to commit suicide in despair.

Fifty years old Baron von Fibberg lives at The Fibberg Castle with his wife Olga and daughter Charley. Besides the delight in hunting, Baron is very enthusiastic about truth. Although he can't withstand any falsehood of others, he keeps his own intimate secrets from his wife. Charley seems to be an innocent girl at first glance, but she has a little secret too. She fell in love with a young fop Ernest Benda and married him in secret. Her only concern is the way, how to let her strict father know about the marriage. Together with her husband they prepare a plan how to do it, but it turns out to be a catastrophe for the whole family.
The drama from the time of the Nazi occupation begins at the train station, where a transport with German soldiers is passing. The train is stopped due to improvised sabotage by one of the railway workers. Resistance liaison Růžena Kubínová is arrested in a random raid. The cynical councilor Dönnert discovers her false documents and has her brutally interrogated. He suspects that she could contribute to exposing the entire group. He puts a informant, Herta, in her cell.
Two young composers offer their operetta in vain - it is rejected before anyone reads it. By a coincidence, when its text ends up in the wrong briefcase, it ends up with a popular singer who, on the contrary, likes it very much, but has no idea who wrote the play... The search for the authors, personality confusion and budding love become the main plot elements of this pleasantly naive film, where there is constant singing.
Irča Miňovská, the daughter of a car factory director, meets mechanic Lexa Hora by chance. They fall in love, but Irča's father does not want his daughter's unequal relationship and decides to send Irča to a boarding school so that she cannot see Lexa. Lexa leaves the plans for her new engine with her boyfriend Harry Peters at the factory, resigns, and leaves to forget about Irča. The owner of the ready-to-wear store, Mr. Richard Naceradec from Zizkov, is an enthusiastic fan of S.K. Slavia and despite his wife's opposition, he goes to football every Sunday. Tailor Emanuel Habásko lives alone with his adult son Eman. Widow Ouholicková chases Krejcí endlessly, but father Habásko bravely resists. Habásko do not recognize any other club except S.K. Viktoria. One day, Naceradec will face Eman at the match between Slavia and Viktoria.
Sixth-year student Eva Martenová falls in love with the new young professor Jiří Hron. She cannot concentrate in his lessons, even though she is as well prepared as ever for teaching. On a school trip, Professor Bruncvíková tries to win Hron over, but the professor dances with Eva at a party. At school, Eva's thoughts are elsewhere again and she refuses to give Bruncvíková Hron's portrait. She goes to Hron's office crying and he tries to calm her down. His friendly gesture is seen by Professor Bernard, who had previously had reservations about Hron's modern teaching methods. He informs the principal that Hron was holding student Martenová in his arms. When Eva learns that Hron is facing disciplinary proceedings because of her, she attempts suicide. However, her friend Martina's brother, Dr. Pavel Haler, saves her. In the hospital, Eva is visited by a vindicated Hron and confesses his love for her.
