Il Baracchino, once the coolest comedy club around, is now a drunken, cockroach-infested dive...and it could soon become a Doner Kebab! But Claudia, an aspiring art director, wants to save it: she puts together a ragtag line-up of comedians for an evening that could change everything. Too bad the biggest obstacle is Maurizio, the gruff unicorn owner of the place.

Diego Viani is a former robber, well-known in the 1980s for his "unarmed" heists. His best friend is Michele Ragusa, a shabby private investigator scraping by on cases of marital infidelity. Working alongside him is Alex, an unpaid intern—a clumsy "mama’s boy" who dreams of becoming a detective despite having no talent for it. Everything spirals out of control when Diego’s past resurfaces in the form of Salamandra, an old accomplice. Salamandra accuses him of stealing the loot from their final job: five billion lire in gold bullion that vanished into thin air. When Salamandra dies under mysterious circumstances, Diego becomes the prime suspect. Commissioner Castrone, fueled by a long-standing personal vendetta, is convinced of his guilt. The only person who believes in Diego’s innocence is Ragusa, who decides to investigate with the help of the unlikely Alex.

Lorem Ipsum tells the story of a press officer who, faced with a metafictional synopsis, is unsure what to make of it, so he asks the show's author for comment, who quotes him verbatim: "Lorem Ipsum is my second stand-up comedy monologue. And I'm not sure what it's about. I think it's about thinking. More specifically, I think it's about what you think when you talk about what you think. Or more simply, I think it's about nothing."
