The only goal of an ageing Indian-American widow is to see her son and rebellious daughter (described as an American Born Confused Desi or ABCD) married off to respectable Indian families.

A depressed, affluent, middle aged Hindu woman, ASHA, accompanies her domineering husband to a Texas cattle ranch. While there, she befriends a cattle woman who takes the Hindu woman under her wing and teaches her all about cowboy culture. Asha soon finds purpose on the ranch and in her life. She discovers the meaning of true American grit.
