Guinaw Rail, a forgotten neighbourhood on the outskirts of Dakar, is emptying out. Bulldozers are demolishing houses along the route of the ‘Train Express Regional’, the symbol of President Macky Sall's “Emerging Senegal”.
Mbarodi is a film about restitution, built around a carefully staged performance in which a man embodies the looted work. The film revisits the popular Senegalese practice of the dancing lion, connecting it to the issues and futures of sacred and cultural objects. It depicts the symbolic return of African masks and artifacts, accompanied by Passe-Partout, his shadow and companion, who questions him about the past and the future of these objects.
