Based on the historical land survey by Carl Friedrich Gauss and Christian Ludwig Gerling, ‘Maps of Wilderness’ explores the limits of measurability. Precise tools encounter weather, distance and that which cannot be fully captured. Analogue animation techniques and a text by Daniela Danz are the starting points for new perspectives by seven female artists.

In 2022, theater director and dramaturge Evgenia Berkovich wrote poems about the Russian-Ukrainian war. She is imprisoned in Russia for “public incitement to terrorism”. Before the verdict was announced on January 9, 2024, she gave her final speech in poetry.

A wolf-human figure awakens in a world threatened by fire and decay. She senses that everything around her is disappearing, without understanding why—almost blind and unable to see the obvious. But then she realizes the truth: huge, destructive feet are trampling through the world, setting everything on fire, plunging both the past and the future into darkness. In the end, she has only one option left: to save herself.
