Biography
Luma Flôres is a brazilian illustrator, animator and director. Since 2017, she has dedicated herself to an authorial and experimental approach in 2D animation, and has participated in productions as animator and concept artist, most notably “Jussara” (Camila Ribeiro) and “Ana, En Passant” (Fernanda Salgado). In 2024, she was resident of AniMAM (Animation Research and Production Program) at the Rio de Janeiro Museum of Modern Art. “How A River Is Born” is her first film as writer and director.

How a River Is Born

The quiet city of Veredas is home to Casa Rosa, a famous brothel in the backlands of Minas Gerais managed by Ismael's mother, known to everyone as O Filho da Puta. Tired of his life, the young man leaves with his dog towards the coast in search of the father he never knew. Along the way, he finds himself faced with situations that, at the same time as they transform him, insist on reminding him of the fate he is fleeing.
