In the 18th century, Moldavian land was under the yoke of foreign invaders and the oppression of local boyars. A national liberation struggle unfolded in the country, in which the Hajduk led by Ataman Badiu actively participated. Boyar Manya, with the help of mercenaries, managed to capture him. But the boyar's daughter, who loved Badiu, gathered a detachment of Hajduk, who freed their chieftain.

Based on a Moldavian folklore following the story of the hero Fat-Frumos. Incredibly strong and smart, he leaves his childhood home after he hears three mysterious cries. He then journeys to save the beautiful Elaina from the captivity of the evil dragon Laur Balaur.

During World War II, an old man, David, living with his daughter-in-law, Maria, while his son is away at war, is being regularly harassed by a German airplane, until one day, when he decides he's had enough.
