Biography
Jimmy Lo is a filmmaker, film educator and film festival curator from Hong Kong. With over 10 years of experience and a rich portfolio of films recognized globally at international film festivals, his debut feature documentary, Stories of Pang Jai (2024), won Best Feature Film Award and Best Cinematography for Feature Film Award at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival 2024 and was nominated for the Human Rights Award at the South Taiwan Film Festival. The film has been screened internationally, including in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Italy, Sweden, the UK, the US and Canada. Jimmy's second feature film, Give and Take (2025), which explores the Hong Kong diaspora in Canada, will have its world premiere in London, UK, in September 2025. Prior to joining MacEwan University, Lo was a visiting faculty at the University of Hong Kong, where he taught film/video production and documentary studies. Since 2024, he has been active in co-curating and co-organizing film festivals including the UBC-based Asian Independent Cinema Showcase and the HKU-based Documenting Hong Kong Film Festival.
Known For

Until 2015, the government proposed land resumption without consultation to build a subsidized housing unit. In Hong Kong, where land is extremely expensive, it is not difficult to become a target for eradication if it is regarded as "no economic value". Cloth vendors roar for their common beliefs, between struggle and life, between politicians and bureaucrats, in Sham Shui Po "shacks", in the wind and rain, on sunny days, this is their living space.
