The 1990s. Two friends Masha and Taya are trying to escape from the narrow confines of a provincial town. Masha rebels through dancing and conflicts with her mother and her young lover, while the timid and indecisive Taya seeks salvation in a marriage with a foreigner organized by her parents.

Chinese businessman Weihong comes to Russia to visit his business partner Victor, who is in debt to him. Weihong tries to put things in order: fire ineffective employees, improve sales.
