In the mountains of the Ötztal, the wealthy Fender (Eduard Köck) and Wally (Heath Hatheyer), his only daughter and heir, manage a small farm. He wants to marry the rich, but boring, Vincent (Leopold Esterle). Wally escapes to a mountain hut, where she lives alone and withdrawn. Her love belongs to the hunter, Joseph (Sepp Rist). When she unwisely takes a young vulture from its nest and is attacked by the mother, Joseph comes to her aid and from that point on, she fondly calls him her "Geierwally". He also feels attracted to her, but Wally can't escape the feeling, that the young Afra is his mistress. Mad with jealousy, Wally announces that she'll marry the one who kills Josef. Vincent wants to earn her hand and is determined to kill the Geierwally. Just in time, though, the actual relationship between Joseph and Afra is clarified.

Relations between Huckebein, a humble tailor, and Greizinger, a wealthy farmer, become strained after Greizinger breaks off the romance between his son, Franzl, and Huckenbein's daughter, Evi. However, after a situation with a 100 mark note taken from a pair of trousers pressed by Huckebein belonging to Greisinger is resolved, a valuable mineral spring is found on the tailor's property,and the warring fathers become friends and Evi and Franzl are married.

The latest woman marrying into the Tanhoff family has to overcome the ancient curse, that she will die giving birth.

It's bowling night again in Dingelfingen am Rhein. Hotel owner Kiesewitz has set a new record in bowling and is crowned the winner. Now he is to represent the club at the Oktoberfest in Munich. But at home he makes life difficult for everyone, especially his wife and his two daughters.

Michael Lutz and his fiancée Barbara want to spend their vacation on a quiet island in the Danube, hoping to finally have some time to themselves. And who do they run into there? None other than Mr. Bruckmann, Barbara's boss. He hadn't planned on ending up on the island at all; he only wanted to take a boat trip with his partner, Consul Hansens, and the latter's pretty daughter, Gwen. Bruckmann and Gwen are on the verge of falling in love, which the consul would find extremely pleasing. Now they're all stranded on the island together, without money, papers, or clothes.

The farmers on the Lohhof, the largest farm in the area, are well known all around and have the highest prestige amongst their peers, not the least, because they never suffer any shortage of water. When in times of drought the water everywhere else has dried into nothingness, the water on the Lohhof is abundant and fresh. But one very dry summer, the drought comes to the Lohhof, too, and this time, the source of the water has dried up. And so, with diving rod in hand, one of the farm's old peasants goes on his merry little way to find a new source of water. At one point, the diving rod bends so strongly, that it almost slips out of the old man's hands. Convinced that there must be a huge source of water nearby, all the farmers of the Lohhof bend their backs to find the new well. They dig long, but they dig in vain: no water is found, only a strange sand, which is yellowish, shiny and flickers golden in the sun.

High up in the mountains, a peasant family drags themselves through the towering granite blocks with all their possessions to make a new home for themselves. The mountains, however, have no interest in seeing them make a home up there: for months, huge boulders have been crashing down around them; trees have been falling on the walls of their new home and collapsing it ... and more than one time.
