Lamiya Salimova

Set in 1994 Baku, the film modernizes Üzeyir Hacıbəyov’s musical comedy "O olmasın, bu olsun" by recasting Rustam Bey as an opposition figure who hopes to reclaim his lost office by courting wealthy businessman Ibka’s family. As in the original, a series of comic deceptions and mismatched identities ensue, though all the principal characters have been updated to fit the post-Soviet Azerbaijani context.

Khasmammad, who never spoke a word of Russian in his life, suddenly starts to dream in Russian at night. This issue spreads throughout the village. His family takes him to the doctor. After seeing that this is not helping, they have to go to the mullah.

The film tells the story of a dispute between two neighbors over a pumpkin. However, neither the villagers, nor the police, nor other officials are able to resolve this dispute.
