The life of Nina Vandenberg, wife of Gero Vandenberg, whose family owns a successful coffee roasting company, is a disaster. First, she burns down the family villa in an alcohol intoxication and almost dies in the process, a little later Gero dies in a plane crash. But that's not all: A large amount of cash was found in the wreckage of the plane, from which no one knows where it came from - at the same time the company is missing 40 million euros, and it looks as if someone here has black money from the company wanted to smuggle past the tax office. All indications point to Nina, because she signed everything her husband presented to her without hesitation. On 1 September 1939, Germany invades Poland, after which a regulation was promulgated that all Polish Jews should move to the new Warsaw Ghetto. As in all the ghettos, a Judenrat was appointed and was responsible for the administration of the ghetto. The miniseries tells the moral dilemmas faced by Adam Czerniaków, head of the Judenrat in the Warsaw Ghetto, who had to carry out orders of the German authorities, including sending Jews to the Treblinka extermination camp.
A man sentenced to death escapes from a military prison and finds shelter with a resistance group that is set to liberate the country. The repressive enemy never sleeps. During his wandering throughout Japan, Tora-san meets a suicidal man. He travels with the man to Vienna, but winds up homesick for Japan.
The protagonist, Franz, copies the paintings of old masters. He slowly loses his sense of reality, resulting in angst-ridden fantasies and a desire for self-destruction. Franz has an uphill battle with the loss of values and spread of capitalism around him. He rejects advertising to the point of destroying its manifestations.

While surveying Vienna's underground, Karl and Paula come across a system of catacombs in which they discover valuable burial objects and a mummified corpse with numerous tattoos. When Karl has an accident during his explorations, Fred is asked for help by Paula. Neither of them suspect what they will soon be involved in.
Blasius is plagued by the memory of a car accident. He in turn plagues his aunt, until she finally tramples on his favourite toy car. Their tiny Viennese residence becomes jsut too small.
