Vladimir Tsarkov

The hero, a tall, blond, handsome man with a sense of humour, a labour leader, and an athlete, grew up in a family of metallurgists. After meeting a silly girl under very unusual circumstances, he fell in love with her. He quickly brought her home to his parents and explained that they were “forever together.” However, she was not yet divorced, and in many ways, she did not satisfy his father.

The civil war separated families on opposite sides of the barricades. How to understand this situation for a young girl who is being raised by a rich aunt, while her father leads a partisan detachment.

The story takes place in the first post-war year. Two Leningrad teenagers, who survived the siege, travel to Ukraine to get bread. During this journey, they come to understand the value of human kindness and trust.
