Biography
Sergiy Kulybyshev is a Ukrainian director and writer working across film, television, and theatre, and a member of the Ukrainian Film Academy. Born in Crimea and displaced by the Russian occupation in 2014, he has written and directed over 400 episodes for television since 2003. In 2024, he was awarded Playwright of the Year by Ukrinform’s Theatrical Infoboom. His recent works include the original series comedy drama BURYING THE EX (Sweet.tv, UA, 2025), named Best Series of the Year at the Black Lotus Awards 2026, and the short film THE SUNNY (2024), which has received multiple awards and was officially selected for Palm Springs International ShortFest 2025. Sergiy is also the creator of the socially impactful sitcom HROMADA (NLO TV, UA), winner of USAID’s PITCH UA 2019. His theatre works include MAGNIFICENT CENTURY. HAPPY (winner of the Drama.ua Award 2023 and nominated for the GRA Theatre Award 2026) and POLYANDRY staged at the Franko National Theatre in Kyiv. In his film and theater projects, he tackles important and complex topics, blending them with elements of humor. In 2026, he is working on an upcoming feature film about the Ukrainian music band Gadyukins.
