Him – Her – and what’s in between. A short experimental silent fiction film shot entirely on 16mm BW and colour film made in the tradition of classic silent-era filmmaking.

After reading I Am the Sultan of the Law of Existence by Youssef Idris, a five-day journey through Egypt’s Western Desert, traveling from north to south., covering 2,800 km and shooting for 35 hours, the expedition became both physical and existential. The desert’s vastness and silence echo the text’s meditation on the relationship between man, nature and the universe, transforming the landscape into an active force that reshapes perception and confronts the nature of existence.

Both Mahmoud and Zeinab join hands to search for the original version of the first Egyptian independent film that was made back in the 1980s, all copies of which were either destroyed or confiscated for unknown reasons by the government film agency, an entity that governed film production and distribution at the time.

The sea and the city. Man and woman. Fear, willingness, loss and regain. A journey full of encounters and engagements into which He plunges to regain his collapsed world, in a foggy mysterious passage between wake and dream. Inspired by Naguib Mahfouz’s The Dreams.

A series of events unfold over the course of one single day in Cairo creating a chain reaction that begins with the oldest and most dominant character and ends with the weakest link of the chain.

In a very local egyption coffee roasting factory, the manager "Kafr" claims that the sky is falling outside and orders everyone not to leave, sparking chaos and leading to a crisis inside the factory.
