Long ago, Geamăna was a Romanian village in the Apuseni Mountains, home to about 1000 people. Today, only the church spire rises from the poisonous mud of a neighbouring copper mine. Almost all the houses have sunk and their inhabitants fled. Only a few people held on to their home. On the edge of the past, Valeria Praţa strives for her present - and is threatened by the future.

A band attempts to stand out from the musical mainstream and still remain commercial enough. On the one hand ‘Florian Paul & die Kapelle der letzten Hoffnung’ want it all; on the other hand, they want very little. Like many other German indie bands, they face challenges: how do we reach our audience? And at what cost?

When Felix steals a leather jacket in a hotel, he bumps into Bianca. She confuses him for a callboy she booked and Felix decides to play along.

Germany, 1970: Students Karl-Heinz and Hedi try to find a way to be together from across the Iron Curtain, with her in the East and him in the West. Under the pressure of the GDR’s secret police, Karl-Heinz can’t move to East Germany and eventually, Hedi has to leave the country. Her escape, disguised as a holiday trip to Romania, goes wrong in many ways.

After Inés and her grandmother learn about a military coup breaking out in their home country, the young woman tries desperately to get ahold of her loved ones back home. However, as the night progresses, doubt, pain and powerlessness start to take hold of Inés, threatening to destroy her relationship with her grandmother and her sanity…
