Biography
Born in 2003, Maarij Reka is a film student at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta, and working as a writer-director. He grew up in the suburban area, making works that reflect both social and personal experiences, told through mixed media and magical realism. His short film “Dihapus dari Peta” (Erased from the Map, 2025) was funded by Layar Indonesiana, marking him as the first student to receive the grant, and world premiered at Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival 2025. He is currently developing his debut feature, “The Boy with His Mother’s Statue”, which received a development grant from Jakarta Film Week Producers Lab 2025 and was selected for the Indonesia–France Film Lab 2025.
