El Talismán is a telenovela co-produced by Venevision and Univision Studios, starring Blanca Soto and Rafael Novoa as the main protagonists, and Aarón Díaz, Lola Ponce, and Marcela Mar as the main antagonists. Univision had announced that El Talismán would air on the network as part of the 2011–2012 programming schedule, and was confirmed to air in 2012 on November 11, 2011. Though 120 episodes were planned to be produced, the episode count was reduced to a total of 98 due to low ratings. From January 30 to February 3, 2012, Univision aired El Talismán at 8pm central, replacing one hour of Una familia con suerte, and later at 9pm central from February 6 to March 9, 2012. Though El Talismán was seen by 5 million viewers during its premiere day, viewership declined overtime during its prime time airings. As a result, Univision aired El Talismán at 1pm central from March 12 to June 15, 2012.

Infierno en el paraíso is a Mexican telenovela produced by Carlos Sotomayor for Televisa and originally broadcast on Canal de las Estrellas from June 21 to October 22, 1999. Created by Nora Alemán, with co-writing by Nora I. Sánchez and literary editing by Alejandra León de la Barra and Martín Támez, the telenovela stars Alicia Machado and Juan Ferrara, with Diana Bracho and Julieta Rosen as the main antagonists. The story follows Alejandro Valdivia, a wealthy tobacco plantation owner whose wife, Fernanda, disappears after a car accident and is presumed dead. Haunted by guilt, Alejandro eventually falls in love with the kind-hearted Marian Ordiales and marries her. However, as Marian settles into the Valdivia estate, she faces hostility from Alejandro's family and begins to suspect that Fernanda's disappearance hides a dark secret, leading to a story of love, betrayal, greed, and deception.

This strains the relationship between Luis and Maria, so much so that Maria, stung by bitterness, teaches her son to despise his father and manages to move from Mexico to the United States to keep Luis from contacting his son. Luis wants nothing more than to regain his lost relationship and affection with his beloved son. Therefore, time after time he visits Maria in hope of winning over his son's affection with little success. Over time, Rafael, now a young man, comes to have a passion for music just like his father despite having a hatred for him.
