Nina wakes up restless in the middle of the night, wanders around the house and accidentally steps on a spider. Her father tells her that its death will bring bad luck. The next day Nina goes on a trip to the sea with her mother and other children. Among the dunes of the beach she will realize what is troubling her.
Piero and his son Giuliano live alone, on the edge of town, in a farmhouse filled with injured animals they collect and care for. The Nonne, local notables, want to drive them out because they live like vagrants. During a snowfall, Piero disappears and the animals are killed. Giuliano has no choice but to search for his father.
Raffaele has just assembled his little pile of grain, which serves as his provisions for an entire year. Sardinia, the 1970s: Giaime was given custody of some turtledoves. His dog Miggia slipped into the cellar and knocked over the birds' cage. Now Giaime doesn't know how to tell Tommaso, who caught them, that the turtledoves have flown away.
