Tessa O’Connell has only two goals for senior year: keep her head down, and get over the heartbreak of seeing her longtime crush date her ex-best friend. She fears the worst when her childhood bully, Cole, returns to town from military school. To her surprise, Cole’s not back to taunt her, in fact, he might just be the one good thing to come out of this year as an unlikely connection ignites with the potential to transform them both.
Green-haired Maia is tired of city life and, driven by a desire to be among nature, she decides to spend the summer picking oranges. In the orchards, she is greeted by the gardener, an eccentric loner called Teo, who notices that Maia isn’t like everyone else. In the same way, he tends his plants and devotes his time and energy to her, and the young woman starts to blossom. Their burgeoning friendship, however, is unsettled by the arrival of Teo’s father and older brother Arturo, who are planning a celebration in a neighboring village.
While a trial involving murder, manslaughter and armed robbery is being conducted inside the courtroom, the two daughters of the accused are sentenced to wait outside in the hallway.
