Sasha, 20, returns to her family’s sun-soaked home in the south of France with her friends—her first visit since her older sister’s death. What begins as an idyllic summer escape slowly curdles into something far more suffocating.

Rosa and her gang have decided to spend the night on “the island”, a stretch of beach that has become their kingdom. It’s the last evening of the summer, the summer of our eighteenth birthdays, the time to experience everything, the time to say goodbye.

A weary radio host encased in her headphones, Gal·la, plays Chopin’s Concerto No. 2 in F minor, interrupted by a child in a karate uniform. After the studio she reads a story to help him sleep, though no one quite manages. Encountering a stranger, the three begin a new broadcast that beams from their room. Sound is the main preoccupation of La nostra habitació, it encloses, intrudes, draws together and sets free.
