Yugoslavia, 1979. Jugoslav is an ambitious reporter in a country that strictly controls the media. Blagoje is a colonel of UDBA before retirement, broken by health problems. Their paths cross when a brutal murder shakes a town in Serbia. They both go to investigate the case, for different reasons.

Through combination of live action and documentary filmmaking, "Battle of Cegar" shows the events surrounding The First Serbian Uprising, as well as circumstances that led to defeat of Serbian rebels against Ottoman Empire in 1809 during their attempt to conquer the city of Nis, one of the stronger Turkish bastions in the Balkans.
