The coming-of-age story of celebrated novelist Gabrielle Roy, growing up in the family home on Deschambault Street in Saint-Boniface. Against a backdrop of the social and political issues the francophone minority in Manitoba faced at the time, Gabrielle, struggles to understand her place in the scheme of things surrounded by her parents, her sisters, and her community.

Mathieu works in a cattle slaughterhouse in the region. For the past year, he has been slow to free himself from his foster family and find his own roots. When his sister Heidi, whom he has not seen for 3 years, asks him to pick her up in the depths of the United States, he renews the hope of bringing her back to his side. Despite the warning from his former foster mother, Mathieu leaves everything undone to answer his sister's call.

We meet Emma and Léo on their wedding day, convinced they understand love and commitment at 25. But can their relationship survive the urge to challenge convention?
