Fátima is a woman who left São Luís do Maranhão for Rio de Janeiro to fulfill her dream of being a singer. As the years go by, her dream becomes more and more distant and she finds herself forced to exchange stages for tarot cards.

G.H., a well-to-do Rio sculptress, enters her maid’s room, sees a cockroach crawling out of the wardrobe, and, panicking, slams the door on it. But the sight of the dying insect provokes a mystical crisis.
