The match carried added significance as the 18th and final singles encounter between the two, closing the book on one of NJPW’s defining rivalries that began with their first clash on January 24, 2002, when a young Tanahashi challenged Nagata in a bout that helped launch his rise to stardom.

January 20 sees the New year’s Golden Series get underway. The throwback tour title is a call back to the year opening series in the early years for NJPW, and is a fitting name for our golden anniversary celebrations!
