In 1983 Owl, North Dakota, the lives of three residents – elderly Horace, who spends his afternoons reminiscing in the local coffee shop; teenage Mitch, depressed backup quarterback star player-power-horse; and newly appointed high school English teacher Julia – along with those of the town's other residents, are upended by a historic whiteout blizzard.

A woman must navigate her way through a surreal landscape where finding love is the only thing that matters. But in order to do it she must confront the memories buried in her own life that have always kept "love" just outside her grasp.

Ten members of a cult are willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice to feel the love and acceptance of family. Promised to them, a perfect life in heaven by their comforting and mesmerizing leader who simply goes by "The Guide". The followers willingly accept a holy communion which will send them to their deaths in the most perfect way, martyrdom. But what unravels when there are ten people in a room who all know they are about to die for a cause that they have believed to be true until death comes knocking.
