Ivan and Valentina decide to celebrate New Year very modestly, without Christmas trees and festive delicacies, in the native village of Kuchugury. But, their city in-laws come — Yuri and Olga Kovalev with Zhenya, their granddaughter. And the celebrities who are going to corporate parties become stuck in the village because of heavy snowfall and drifts on the roads. The hotel does not have enough space, and in-laws, experienced in this business, offer their services.

But here he mentions that an old gray parrot has been living in his house for almost thirty years, which has faithfully played the role of "blue bird" for many years. An elderly, sick person is forced to run around the city in search of a new shelter for his faithful friend.
