Biography
Rey Anthony Villaverde is a contemporary visual artist, writer, and filmmaker hailing from Zamboanga del Norte. Starting his journey in filmmaking at a young age with student films, he has become a passionate advocate for independent cinema, aiming to inspire the next generation of filmmakers. Despite the distance from major film studios, Villaverde actively promotes regional filmmaking on prestigious national platforms like Cinema Rehiyon and Cinemalaya. Since 2022, he has been a prominent figure in his local film community, earning accolades such as Best Film and Best Director at the Dipolog Film Festival and SineNorte Film Festival. Recently, he was recognized as a finalist at the 20th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.
