Maria Zhukova is invited to study in the USA. During her studies, Maria accidentally learns information that calls into question all her ideals and beliefs. Starting her own investigation, she finds out that she is involved in a big multi-way game related to the threat to Russia's security. Taking the risk and obtaining evidence, Zhukova does not have time to leave the United States, and she is arrested. Leningrad, 1965. KGB Lieutenant Colonel Mikhail Shirokov is informed that his long—time enemy Alexander Stroganov, nicknamed Graf, a former punisher and saboteur who worked for German intelligence during the war, has been spotted in Leningrad. With the help of the remnants of the White Guard underground, the Zigzag sabotage group and the mole in the ranks of the militia, he tried to carry out a sophisticated plan to destroy the city: the explosion of five symbols of the revolution, including a Large House. There is a loss in the Zhilin family. The brothers, Nikolai, deputy commander of the Simferopol Berkut, and Andrey, a Moscow surgeon, and their sister, Natalia, a teacher at the Simferopol gymnasium, come to their father's funeral. Many years ago, in the 90s, circumstances separated the brothers and sister in different cities and even countries. A conflict breaks out between them over a house by the sea.

The souls of dead young men and women are released back to Earth for a short time to find true love.
