Genesis Baez

"Oranges" is the second in an ongoing portrait of collectivity. The camera pans across a group of artists - one by one in succession - as they engage in an intimate exchange. The gestures make up a new grammar, revealing something that does not make sense because of its proximity to something else, but because something new is understood.

In Holding Water, people throughout the Puerto Rican diaspora in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts imagine the origin of two anonymous blue fragments as they touch and handle them. From within a diner in the Bronx, a grocery store in New Haven, or a living room near Boston- to name a few places- strangers, friends, and family are asked, “where do you think these came from?”

Clouds is a video of the sky above Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. As the camera records, my family and I describe what we see in the clouds. The video cycles through various times of the day and seasons.
