Biography Serdar Pehlivanoğlu is a Turkish film director, producer, and cinematographer whose career reflects a deep commitment to both the artistic and technical evolution of Turkish cinema. A graduate of the prestigious Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University (MSGSÜ) Cinema-TV Department, his cinematic foundation was built under the direct mentorship of legendary masters such as Lütfi Akad, Metin Erksan, Halit Refiğ, Memduh Ün, and Sami Şekeroğlu. Early Career and Awards During his formative years in the 1990s, Pehlivanoğlu emerged as a standout talent in the short film format. His 1993 film Julia Sax became a critical success, winning "Best Film" at both the Ankara Film Festival and the Arıburnu Short Film Awards. He followed this with award-winning works like Tiraj (1995) and Yumurta (1998). In 2000, he completed a definitive documentary on the life of Orhon Murat Arıburnu, which was broadcast on TRT and remains a significant cultural record. Industry Leadership: LOKOMOTİF© In 1998, together with his partner Ülkü, he founded LOKOMOTİF© Film Production. The company played a transformative role in the Turkish film industry by introducing advanced filming equipment (35mm, 16mm, 3D, and Anamorphic) that was previously unavailable in the country. Between 1998 and 2019, through LOKOMOTİF KAMERA©, he provided the technical infrastructure for 116 feature films, as well as hundreds of commercials and music videos, contributing to the visual quality of modern Turkish cinema. Directing and Literature Pehlivanoğlu’s directorial portfolio includes a wide range of content, from impactful public service announcements on childhood health (2011) to the futuristic short film Dünya 2222 (2018). In 2019, he completed the feature film 5 Silahşörler (The 5 Musketeers) as both director and producer. In 2023, he expanded his creative horizons into literature, publishing two poetry books, Sevseri and Hey Güneş, and a collection of short stories titled Şarkı Mırıldanan. Whether behind the camera or on the page, Pehlivanoğlu continues to explore new ways of storytelling.
