Vitória Neves, a strong woman and dedicated teacher, always focused on solving the problems of her students and colleagues, even if this means leaving her personal life and family balance behind. The ones who suffer most are Pedro, her teenage son, and Salvador, her husband. Sofia Neves, Vitória's sister, an artist who lives in London, is opening her first major exhibition when she receives the news of Vitória's suicide.

Based on Eça de Queiroz's 1875 novel, the plot takes place in Leiria, Portugal, at the end of the 1860s, and follows the story of the forbidden passion between Amaro, a young priest, and Amélia, "the most beautiful girl in Leiria". Tense, emotional and rooted in personality conflicts, the series takes a critical look at society and the church in Portugal, in Leiria in the 19th century.

Vanessa inherits an old Portuguese Revue theatre after the death of a distant aunt. Her agent, Tozé Leal, tries to convince her to sell it, but she decides to restore it to its former glory with the help of her friends Joana and Ribeiro. But her dream will not be easy to achieve: Armando, the owner of a neighbouring theatre, will do everything he can to stop Vanessa.
