A young family is driving down a road that is blocked by armed soldiers. The soldiers stop the car for no reason and take the man away for questioning. The man's wife and daughter stay in the car, waiting.

Two sisters come to their "shelter" for the summer. Here, at their grandmother's house, each of them is hiding from an important decision. One is hesitant about moving to Australia, while the other is trying to figure out her relationship. The old house, the overgrown apple garden, the warm evenings by the fire — everything seems frozen in time... But summer can't last forever.

The sweet sleep of a couple is interrupted when they witness the beating of a young girl beneath the windows of their home. Now they try to preserve the calm of their warm bedroom while, outside, reality cracks and splinters — a reality better left untouched, because it will stink.
