A Lot Happens If Nothing Happens
Fort Gross Friedrichsburg is located in Ghana, formerly known as the Gold Coast. A relic from the colonial era, it serves as a reminder of the years of Brandenburg occupation. Forts like this one line the entire coast. These former slave trading hubs are now World Heritage Sites, silent witnesses to a time that still casts a shadow over the everyday lives of the people here.

In the audiovisual composition, not only do the sounds of the solo flute overlap and unite with those of the wooden stairs and floors of the Habichtshorst Old Forester's Lodge, but also the visual impressions of the video images with the acoustic ones.

Labor was the central topic of propaganda and educational films from the GDR, especially in the civics classes. A look in the archives of reveals that for decades the same footage was used over and over again. "The New Era" is a small relic which conjures the ghosts of communist education and reminds us of the dream that mankind may in some idyllic future be able to reap the fruits of its labor.
