Biography
Prabhat Kumar Mukhopadhyay (3 February 1873–5 April 1932) was a Bengali writer. He was born at Dhatrigram in present-day Purba Bardhaman district, West Bengal at his maternal uncle's house. His native place was Gurap in Hooghly district, West Bengal. Prabhat Kumar Mukhopadhyay is known to be a very famous and proficient writer in Bengali Literature. After Rabindranath Tagore, he is the best-known short story writer. He wrote novels, short stories, and poems. His poems were published in the Bharati, a Bengali periodical, while he was still in school. He gained fame writing short stories, which are based on looking at life in a light-hearted, simple, way.[2] During his career, he wrote over one hundred stories and fourteen novels.

A son in a rich family has gone missing for a long time. A man intrudes into the family feigning as their lost son. He enjoys life with the wealth in the family. However, when the wife approaches him with trust and affection his conscience demands a hearing. Even though he is an imposter he does not want to take advantage of the wife's innocence. Finally, it is a victory for the conscience.
Ratnadeep
The story begins with a village lawyer named Joyram Mukherjee, a person of moderate income who had bought an elephant to respond to the arrogance of a a big zamindar family of that locality. Joyram was the legal advisor of the zamindar’s late father and had saved him from many critical situations. He had requested the Zamindar to send an elephant for the joy ride on his daughter’s marriage. Joyram was under the impression that the zamindar won’t refuse such a humble request of a friend of his late father. However, the zamindar's wife rudely refused Joyram’s request. The old man felt insulted at this behavior and became so adamant that he bought an elephant with all the money that he had saved for the future of his family. Soon, thereafter the young elephant became a part of his family and Joyram started to treat her like his own daughter. He named her ‘Aador’, in Bengali which means ‘The Dearest’.
