In a small Michigan town where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry, the McClusky family are the power brokers between the police, criminals, inmates, prison guards and politicians in a city completely dependent on prisons and the prisoners they contain.
After quitting her job in Seattle, Emma Calloway decides to travel through the western states to take a trip her ailing father always dreamed of going on. While on the road she encounters Luke, a photographer who has a similar travel route planned. The two decide to travel together and along the way learn about each other, life and love.
