Following a life-altering heart attack, a train driver named Saverio receives a heart transplant from a young, deceased runner. To honor his donor, Saverio takes on the challenge of fulfilling the young man's dream, training for and ultimately completing the New York City Marathon with the eventual support of the donor's father.
Jennifer is a melancholic and romantically unsatisfied transgender woman who lives in a small apartment in Naples. Meanwhile, a serial killer is targeting the trans residents of the neighborhood. Jennifer spends each night listening to the radio and waiting for a phone call or the return of Franco, an engineer who left Naples for work and who Jennifer previously had a relationshp with. The phones in the neighborhood are unreliable and lines are frequently crossed. Anna, another transgender woman who lives in the same building visits Jennifer's apartment one evening, believing that Jennifer is receiving her calls. The two strangers talk and wait for the phone to ring.
