Saxony, devastated by the Thirty Years' War, is led by the comedy troupe of the principal Fortunato. The student Vavrinec has fled Bohemia and greatly values the text of Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet, which he has acquired on his wanderings around the world.

The economic crisis in the early 1930s also affected the inhabitants of the distinctive Moravian-Slovak countryside. The protagonist and his family returned to their native cottage from the city because he could not find work anywhere. But his younger brother does not welcome him with open arms...

The tailor Florian Kerzl is immersed in the Middle Ages. When he spoils the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the founding of the town of Zdislavice, he is banished from the town. So he moves in his armor to the nearby ruins of a medieval castle. Where Florian has several interesting adventures and even falls in love with the film extra Hanni. Eventually he finds a treasure in the cellars of the old castle, containing the will of the former castle lord.
