A young peasant woman moves to Bogotá in search of work and ends up as a domestic servant for a middle-class family, where she witnesses the breakdown of a conflict-ridden marriage. At the same time, she faces the aftermath of rural violence while trying to adapt to life in the big city.

Four actors go down the Magdalena River with the purpose of locating the scenes in which a play will take place. It seeks to narrate the story of a sentimental relationship established in 1812 between SimĂłn BolĂvar, then 28 years old, and Ana Lenoit, a 17-year-old Frenchwoman, living with her parents in a small town on the banks of the Magdalena.
