Marianna, a free-spirited and wealthy young lady, becomes romantically involved with Marios, the leader of a gang of burglars who committed a major robbery at a jewelry store in Athens. The robbery was committed in broad daylight by Alekos and his girlfriend, Suzy and Sotos.
We are in the mid-19th century, in a village where a matchmaker, Panousis, convinces the widowed lord Artemis Lycopanagos to give his daughter, Pothiti, to his worthy beau, Avgeris, and himself to marry the beautiful Poulias. The matchmaking is completed and the parents of the two young people accept the union, without knowing that their children love each other madly. Avgeris, who does not want to betray his beloved, refuses to take Pothiti as his wife and comes into conflict with Lycopanagos, and is killed. Poulias is forced to take refuge in a monastery, and shortly afterwards she dies in turn.
