Guided by the evocative narration of Charlotte Rampling, Nostalgia for the Future is a descent into the labyrinthine world of Chris Marker, the “best-known author of unknown films,” who spent a lifetime concealing himself behind a veil of pseudonyms and images of cats. Moving through a constellation of personal documents and film fragments, an archivist attempts to decode the man through the material traces he left behind. By repurposing and recontextualizing Marker’s own body of work, the film treats his images as “time machines,” transforming the archive into a landscape of living memory. Nostalgia for the Future is a meditation on memory, identity, and the power our past images hold over the futures we imagine.

A café in the north of Brussels. Days are punctuated by the songs that the customers sing at all hours, to amuse themselves, to remember or to pass the time. Those songs transform the place little by little, making the film a strange musical.

If the ice sheet covering Greenland melted, global sea levels would rise 21 feet, profoundly impacting our planet. How, why, and when could this happen? A few years ago, scientists found lost sediment from a secret sub-ice Cold War base in the Arctic from the 1960s that holds clues to a time when Greenland Ice Sheet was gone. The Memory of Darkness, Light, and Ice is an hour-long documentary about the discovery of this sediment and the critical implications of the science to our future. The finding that the ice sheet melted in the past completely transforms our understanding of the stability of the Greenland Ice Sheet.

In this whimsical and sensual world, the Moon and a Little Vampire share a love story as intoxicating as it is impossible. The Moon petrifies with sorrow at the vast distance separating her from her beloved. The Little Vampire is then faced with a fateful choice : renounce his immortal soul to join his lover for one single night. He embarks on a journey strewn with tantalizing (or thorny) temptations and mischievous spells, all conspiring to lead him astray from his quest.

Confined in a small room on the eighth floor of a half-abandoned building, Jamal searches for the words that would solve the labyrinth of life and existence. The voices of his North African friends, imprisoned in detention centers, come from the mountains around the metropolis of Athens.

Somewhere on an ocean the crew of a fish trawler go about their work day and night. Every step must be perfect, every movement automatically leads to the next. Heavy chains have to be secured, nets reeled in, fish swiftly gutted and packed with ice into large boxes. A cigarette is always dangling from the lips and hopefully there’s always something left in the jar of chocolate cream. The camera moves in the same rolling beat as the ship in the waves.
