Élisabeth Bocquet

A talented photographer who lands a lucrative job in Paris with a scandal-mongering tabloid and becomes romantically involved with an eccentric children's book publisher while resisting the sexual advances of another photographer.

Manoel is an aging film director who travels with the film crew through Portugal in search of the origins of Afonso, a famous French actor whose father emigrated from Portugal to France and in process remembers his own youth.

In this French-Portuguese film -- directed by Jacques Rivette's screenplay collaborator Christine Laurent -- French vocalist Laure Constant (Laurence Cote) goes to Montevideo, Uruguay, to see her old lover Colossus (Jose Olivera), but when he's a no-show, she becomes involved with several other men, while listening to advice from some older French women who are costume designers. Little Emilie Jolie is alone one evening. To cheer him up, the characters in his picture book invite him to join them. She then enters the marvelous world of dreams and meets various characters: the blue rabbits, the big bird, the ostrich, the witch, the umbrella whales, the hedgehog, the clock, the extra-terrestrial, the pebble, the rooster and the donkey, the flower, the wolf and the raccoon. Throughout this journey, Emilie sets off, with the help of the storyteller, in search of Prince Charming who will be able to transform the witch into a princess.
