Between the first and second World Wars, we portray glorified and renown naval sea officer Felix Graf von Lucker and his fictitious ship Niobe, which is the 1887 built Amphitrite from Southampton. Von Luckner is famous for his tactical genius in the first World War, especially sinking 14 enemy ships and only losing one crewman, whilst always seeking a peaceful outcome - making him the ideal seaman.

The murder of the well-known Frankfurt high-class prostitute Rosemarie Nitribitt kept the Federal Republic in suspense at the time, but the crime could never be solved. Although almost twenty years have now passed, the unpleasant matter for those involved at the time comes back on the table, because Annemarie Meier-Wippertal, the daughter of the murdered, causes unrest as she wants to solve the murder of her mother.

Thomas, son of sawmill owner Mautner, is more interested in music and women than in his father's business. His latest acquaintance is the young Andrea Sternberg, whom he rescues from a torrent and whose father wants to build a hotel on the Mautners' property. After an argument with his father, Thomas goes to Bad Gastein, where he lives a lavish life with Andrea and her friends. His father lends him money to finance this, hoping to gain access to Thomas's property. Cornered by Sternberg, Thomas is forced to return to his father and confess.
