Biography
Michael Lamarra is an Emmy winning (2022 Documentary – 20/20: The Babies of 9/11 Twenty Years Later), New York based Cinematographer that loves his work. He's shot projects that screened at Tribeca (Master the Minimum) and Philadelphia Independent Film Festival (Don’t Bother The Neighbors). He enjoys crafting visuals for narrative and doc shorts and features, as well as filming for the major networks including ABC, CBS, Hearst, and private clients like Disney, Deutsche Bank, and Target. Michael is a founding member of Girlsoup Collective where he films collaborative projects. He enjoys camping in national parks with his partner, rock climbing, SCUBA, ice climbing and snowboarding in his free time. He wrote and created three short films out of Hunter College (Logan’s Power, Surface Tension, and The Brown Recluse), and became a co-founder of the collective, Girl Soup. There he co-wrote and shot the award-winning short film currently in distribution, Let's Leave The Planet! and shot their next short in festivals, Don't Bother The Neighbors! Currently the collective is in post production on their folk horror feature, Outen The Light, written and shot by Michael. Michael feels the strongest attachment to telling a story with images since it is the way his brain can best understand the world and other humans. Three movies that changed his life were Another Earth, Donnie Darko and Upstream Color. They all wrestle with human dysfunction and connection, while presenting large feelings through beautiful visual representations. Seeing each of these movies and countless other photographs and paintings have all moved him to want to impact others’ lives in the same way. If we can share some empathy for each other, then the world feels just a little more beautiful.
