Biography

Ángela Carabalí is an Afro-Colombian documentary filmmaker and university professor with an honorary master’s degree in Documentary Film and a master’s degree in Documentary Photography. I Dreamed His Name (2026) is her first feature film; it was awarded Best National Feature Film at the Cali International Film Festival (FICCALI), received a Special Jury Mention at the Hot Docs Festival and the Vancouver Latin American Film Festival, and won Best Ibero-American Feature Film at the Buenos Aires International Documentary Film Festival. She served as assistant director on Ser o No Ser (2018) by director Jhonny Hendrix Hinestroza, and was production manager on A Mother (2022) by director Diógenes Cuevas. She is the director, screenwriter, and co-producer of the internationally acclaimed interactive documentary Pregoneros de Medellín (2014). She is a fellow of the Sundance Institute, Firelight Media, American Film Showcase, and Solutions Storytelling Project:LATAM, where she created the short documentary The Echo (2025).

He's convinced that the place for his schizophrenic mother is at home with her loved ones, not in an institution. While on an unannounced visit, he kidnaps his mother to take her home with him once and for all – but Alejandro is soon overwhelmed by his mother's mental incapacities as they embark on a journey of love and commitment, of emotional and physical extremes.
