In a small town plunged into darkness, two children, Kyona and Adriel, are separated from their parents and, facing the path of exile alone, embark on a heroic journey that will take them from childhood to adolescence, in search of refuge, peace and the hope of finding their family.

Based on the historical land survey by Carl Friedrich Gauss and Christian Ludwig Gerling, ‘Maps of Wilderness’ explores the limits of measurability. Precise tools encounter weather, distance and that which cannot be fully captured. Analogue animation techniques and a text by Daniela Danz are the starting points for new perspectives by seven female artists.

The quotidian becomes hypnotic as the shapes and patterns of pavements come to life.

Growing up in West Germany in the 1980s, Aline imagined a gregarious life on the other side of the Berlin Wall. Meanwhile, in communist Bulgaria, Veselina believed that everyone was happy under capitalism. In their collaborative hybrid documentary, they use their childhood fantasies to sketch a new utopia.

Once on board, an experimental journey begins, winding its way through the paved streets of London.
