Biography
Lauren is an 8-time Southeast Emmy winning filmmaker, and an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia. She is a Director, Producer, and Actress known for Ugly Sweater (2024), Blossoming (2022), The Third Saturday in October (2022), and It's a Southern Thing (2017). She is the co-founder of Purple Magnet Productions. Lauren was born and raised in Webster, Texas by her parents, Deborah and Robert Musgrove, both with careers at NASA. Her sister, Lindsay Musgrove, is an orthopedic surgeon. Lauren has been married to engineer, woodworker, and musician William MacGavin since 2021. Lauren acted in her first play at the age of 6, and and made her first movie on a VHS tape at the age of 10. She now holds a BA in Media Production from The University of Alabama, and an MFA in Film & Media Art from Emerson College. Her work explores places of vulnerability and inspiration in the human condition, often engaging with scientific research and fantastical imagery. She creates both fiction and non-fiction films, as well as music videos.
